Note: Lumber should be treated or painted
prior to assembly. Construction grades of lumber may require sizing on the ends.
- Compare the contents of your PBPT kit to the parts listed above

- take
three of the 5' 2x4's and drill a hole in each end using the dimensions given
in figure1. For clarity during the rest of the instructions, these 2x4's will
be referred to as the "A" boards.
- Take the four remaining 5'
2x4's and drill a hole in each end using the dimensions given in Figure 2. These
2x4's will hereafter be referred to as the "B" boards.

- Insert
the two 4' 2x4's into the slots in the leg frames. Make sure the boards are flush
with the outside of the frames. If the 2x4's are loose, use splints to tighten
their fit. Note the frames are marked Left and Right. As you face the front of
the bench, the holes for the seat boards will be towards the outside of the bench.
- Attach
the 2x4's to the frames using the four wood screws. The tighter the boards, the
more stable the bench will be.
- Fasten the 3 "A" boards to the
frame with six of the 2-1/2" carriage bolts and hex nuts. This will form
the seat of the bench
- Attach a hinge bracket ( arrow pointing down ),
onto each frame with a 4" bolt and hex nut in the top slot. This is the pivot
bolt. This will allow the hinge bracket to move freely from a horizontal position,
( picnic table position ) to a nearly vertical position ( park bench position).
- After
deciding on what position you want the kit to be in, place the second 4"
bolt and wing nut in the lower hole of the hinge bracket. The purpose of using
a wing nut is for ease of changing the position of your PBPT kit.
- Fasten
the 4 "B" boards to the hinge bracket using the remaining 2-1/2"
carriage bolts and nuts. Use the four holes on each bracket marked with the "A".
- You
may now convert your table into a bench and vice versa by removing the two bolts
with the wing nuts, swiveling the top, and refastening the bolts and wing nuts.
